The * Quintessence * page is the master directory (index) and site map to all documents on the Rieck SUPERsite and the various Rieck subSITES. ** SUPERsite TIMEMARK CONVENTIONS **
Where possible, PRESENTATION OF TIMEMARKS throughout the Rieck SUPERsite, is consistent with a format of the INTERNATIONAL STANDARDS ORGANISATION convention ISO 8601, utilizing COORDINATED UNIVERSAL TIME.

The 4 digits of the GREGORIAN CALENDAR YEAR are followed by 2 digits for the MONTH and then 2 digits for the DAY THUSLY: yyyymmdd. When a PRECISE TIMEMARK is included, 2 digits for the HOUR (in 24 hour format) are followed by 2 digits for MINUTES, then 2 digits indicating SECONDS, and is separated from the DATE by a latin capital LETTER "T" (for Time) thusly: yyyymmddThhmmss. For example, the 2002 Canada Day FIREWORKS DISPLAY here in London Ontario Canada, began at 20020702T020014.

VARIATIONS of this may include the addition of HYPHENS separating year, month and day, or the REPLACEMENT of the "T" INDICATOR by a text word stating the day of the week. A VERBAL FORMAT for date and time is BRANDED onto my S-PAD AUDIO DIARY files by VOICE and therefore can appear on various pages as TEXT and/or NUMBERS (to use the Canada Day example from above) THUSLY: "Tuesday the Second of July 2002, 2 hours Zero minutes 14 seconds Z".

My TIMEMARK CONVENTION example above indicates the Second of July for Canada Day, when everybody knows - naturally - that CANADA DAY is actually the First of July. Also, the INDICATED HOUR would seem to suggest a LOCAL 2 A.M. FIREWORKS DISPLAY which is quite late. These APPARENT ANOMALIES are due to my application of COORDINATED UNIVERSAL TIME to local events and clearly demonstrate the attendant occasional necessity for TIMEZONE DATA CONVERSION.

Generally speaking, our ANCIENT METHODS of telling time by LIGHTS IN THE SKY, have been SUPPLANTED by the TECHNOLOGICAL DEVELOPMENTS of the TWENTIETH CENTURY.

** COORDINATED UNIVERSAL TIME **
is expressed in the 24-HOUR FORMAT resolving to SECONDS (hh:mm:ss), relative to the PLANETARY PRIME MERIDIAN which is zero degrees of longitude. That IMAGINARY LINE still runs through the ORIGINAL SITE of the BRITISH ROYAL OBSERVATORY at Greenwich England, but GREENWICH MEAN TIME (GMT) is NOW DEPRECATED and superseded by COORDINATED UNIVERSAL TIME. UTC was adopted INTERNATIONALLY in 1964, then became THE WORLD-WIDE STANDARD for CIVIC TIMEKEEPING in 1986.

"ANTE MERIDIEM" (a.m.) and "POST MERIDIEM" (p.m.) are regarded as ARCHAIC REFERENCES to the inclination of the SOLAR ASPECT at GREENWICH, and are therefore VESTIGES of the ANTIQUATED 12-hour SUNDIAL-ANALOG CLOCK method of TIMEKEEPING.

In 1967 - Canada's Centennial Year - the 13th GENERAL CONFERENCE OF WEIGHTS AND MEASURES based the definition for the ATOMIC SECOND upon RADIATION CHARACTERISTICS of the element CESIUM 133. This basic unit of INTERNATIONAL ATOMIC TIME (TAI), adjusted to within 0.9 seconds of ASTRONOMICAL TIME by utilizing occasional leap seconds, IS COORDINATED UNIVERSAL TIME.

** TIMEKEEPING PRACTISES **
Since AUGUST 1998, I have been KEEPING TIME in my real life by Coordinated Universal Time rather than utilizing the local North American EASTERN TIME ZONE with its seasonal standard and daylight times. My wrist-mounted time standards are calibrated optimally at thrice weekly intervals, nominally once a week, from a documented calibration procedure that designates traceability to the highest possible standard of precision and accuracy. A timekeeping history file is maintained to record performed calibrations and document any relevant changes of standards, conventions, behaviour or tools, that might impinge upon time marks in my work.

1024 x 768 IS ESSENTIAL * I optimize my html pages for Mozilla Firefox, but also check the Rieck SUPERsite with recent versions of Opera and Internet Explorer.

There are only a very few swear words and common sexual references herein, and they all occur as appropriate aspects of creative expression. ** RIECK UNIVERSAL MISSION **
Electric charge is a fundamental property of matter and is created by the lightest of stable subatomic particles, the electron. Under some conditions, electrons act like particles and under other conditions, they act like waves. Electrons are an active inherant component in everything including human thought and feeling, and thereby are an intimate constituent in our individual and collective apprehension of reality.

I am an Universal Electronicist, specializing in the sense of hearing. In other words, I work creatively with electrons. The Rieck SUPERsite and related subSITEs are a product of this creative function, designed to realize my virtual life upon the World Wide Web, for the express purpose of sharing.

My specialties in the sense of hearing, involve a variety of systematic electronic instruments, engineered to control the electromotive force in moving electron charges, in order to generate electroacoustic configurations which are then often stored as documents. This does, of course, include my work with the soundscape, audio diaries, the pipe organ, electronic music systems, free and structured improvisation, and the process of low to high organisation of sound (composing music).
